Lehigh Valley Eye Center - Allentown

My family members and I went here for our first eye exam after moving to the area. Our insurance billing was mishandled (my son had to pay the full amount when it should have been fully covered, in-network), and we had each to pay a deductible when our visit should have been billed as an eye exam - instead it was billed as an office visit, resulting in a co-pay. Despite giving the billing staff the opportunity to correct after sharing instructions from the insurance company, it remains unresolved almost 1 year later. We will not be returning.

Today I took my mother to her appointment at the Allentown location. Her previous appointment was at the Bethlehem location. I found the Bethlehem location to be unkempt but the Allentown location was filthy. The waiting furniture is badly stained and upholstery is torn and split. Unfortunately this is what happens when banks get involved in healthcare, placing profits over patients. The exam room was worse, dirty Qtips left on the exam table from a previous patient. Packing tape holding up the arm of the eye exam machine. It does need to be state of the art but it should be sterilized. I won’t name the Doctor, I don’t blame her for the office conditions; however, I don’t believe she would take her child or family member to an office in such disarray. Disgusting.

I scheduled an appointment with the Lehigh Valley Eye Center on October 24, 2023. The reason for the appointment was dry eyes, and I communicated that to the staff member with whom I scheduled the appointment. My appointment was at the Allentown location since that was the closest location to me. I was finally taken to an exam room after waiting over an hour to be taken into the exam room by the technician. After doing some preliminary checks, she decided to check with the doctor for my particular situation. She returned and told me that I should be in their Bethlehem location to see Dr. Randall. Since that fiasco, no one has contacted me from the practice. This practice, is a huge nationwide conglomeration. If you want someone who cares about patients, go somewhere else!

I have been a patient at this eye center for approx or close to 20 years now. The staff are super friendly and have always been very personable and professional. They always make an effort to say hello and ask how you are doing. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr Listhaus. He has been my savior. He not only has prevented blindness for me, Dr Listhaus made sure I could make my appointments whether my insurance covered me or not. I have met a lot of physicians in my lifetime. Dr Listhaus is one of a kind. Am so happy he is the one who ensures I have the gift of sight!!! :)

Just like the last review I had horrible experience with the receptionist. When I called I explain the reason for my call, rudely I cutoff and was transferred to a voicemail without her saying anything to let me know I was being transferred. No explanation of what was going on and why I was being transferred. No comment explaining anything, no “all doctors are busy but you can leave a message or try your call at a later time”. No bedside manner at all, im sure if she would have wanted too she could have answered some of my questions. This receptionist also didn’t give her name or a simple good morning. She clearly doesn’t enjoy her costumer service position. A more independent role might suit her best. I have gotten better service at a drive through than at this medical office. That’s just shameful because people aren’t calling a medical facility to pester the staff and shouldn’t be treated so rudely. I’m sure the actual medical staff is great but they will certainly loose potential patients due to this initial interaction.
